Iiyoshi Norikuni

Shakuhachi
Iiyoshi Norikuni was taught shakuhachi by his father, Tozan-ryū master Iiyoshi Shōzan, from an early age, and later studied under Miyata Kohachiro. He started playing the cello in high school. He studied the Shinobue and Nohkan under Tosha Nao II. He joined the Nihon Hōgaku Group during university, and was well-received overseas in Vienna, Germany, America, and other countries. He also works as a lecturer and is involved in educational activities, and writes for the magazine "Hōgaku Journal." He also organizes wind instrument exchange meetings, aiming to create new culture. He has participated in three CDs by the Hosanna Hōgaku Ensemble on the shakuhachi. He won the Best Newcomer Award at the 36th Oikawa Music Office Newcomer Audition. He is currently a Dai-Shihan (master teacher) of the Japan Shakuhachi Federation. He is involved in a wide range of solo and ensemble performances.
